Easy Apple Dumplings

Syrup: | |
1-2 cups sugar | 1/4 tsp cinnamon/nutmeg |
2 cups water | 1/4 cup butter |
Pastry: | |
2 cups flour | 3/4 cup shortening |
1 tsp salt | 1/2 cup milk |
2 tsp baking powder |
Boil syrup ingredients together to make a syrup. Make pastry by cutting shortening into dry ingredients and then adding milk. Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness. Spread over pastry 6 small apples, peeled, cored, and chopped. Roll like cinnamon rolls. Cut in 8 pieces. Put in 9 x 13-inch pan. Pour syrup over and bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Serves 8+. Serve with ice cream or heavy cream.
