Syrup:
1-2 cups sugar 1/4 tsp cinnamon/nutmeg
2 cups water 1/4 cup butter
Pastry:
2 cups flour 3/4 cup shortening
1 tsp salt 1/2 cup milk
2 tsp baking powder


Boil syrup ingredients together to make a syrup. Make pastry by cutting shortening into dry ingredients and then adding milk. Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness. Spread over pastry 6 small apples, peeled, cored, and chopped. Roll like cinnamon rolls. Cut in 8 pieces. Put in 9 x 13-inch pan. Pour syrup over and bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Serves 8+. Serve with ice cream or heavy cream.
