Rolled Ginger Cookies

1 c molasses | 1 egg |
1 cup shortening | 1 tsp vanilla |
2 tsp soda | 6 cups flour |
1/2 cup hot water | 1/4 tsp cloves |
1 cup sugar | 1 tsp cinnamon |
1/2 tsp ginger | 1 tsp salt |
Melt shortening in molasses. Cool. Dissolve soda in hot water. Mix dry ingredients. Add sugar and egg to molasses mixture. Add soda mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Chill and roll out for cookies or gingerbread houses. Cook at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
